Why I Wrote The Grandmother’s Will – A Love Letter to Family, Legacy, and Second Chances

Hey family,
After months of writing, revising, and laughing (and sometimes crying) at my keyboard, I’m proud to finally share The Grandmother’s Will with you.
This story started with one simple question: What would happen if a sharp-tongued, lottery-winning grandmother decided to use her fortune not to spoil her family but to force them to grow up?
Grandma Lily is inspired by the real grandmothers who raised so many of us—women who played bingo, scratched tickets, spoke their minds, and loved fiercely even when they were calling you a “jive turkey.” She doesn’t just hand out money. She hands out lessons. And in this book, her final lesson is the biggest gamble of all.
At its core, The Grandmother’s Will is a rom-com with heart. It’s about L-Trey learning to stop pausing and fight for the woman he loves. It’s about family—a messy, loud, scheming, loyal family—learning that greed can tear us apart, but love and legacy can bring us back together.
I wrote this book for anyone who’s ever felt stuck, ever fought with family over money, or ever wondered if second chances are still possible. It’s funny, it’s chaotic, and it’s hopeful. Most of all, it’s a reminder that the real jackpot isn’t cash — it’s the people who stay.If you love stories like The Best Man, Why Did I Get Married?, or any feel-good Black family dramedy with romance and real emotion, I think you’ll enjoy The Grandmother’s Will.
The book is now live on Books.By. I’d be honored if you’d check it out, leave a review, or share it with someone who needs a good laugh and a little hope.
Thank you for supporting independent voices and stories that celebrate family, love, and legacy.
With gratitude,
Antonio A. Marshall
