When twelve-year-old Halle Brown is given one night to weave the entire history of her kingdom into a magical tapestry—or face banishment—she turns to the only one who can help: a mischievous imp named Aaron Thistlequick. But his help comes with a dangerous price: guess his name or surrender her secondborn child.
Joined by a loyal friend carrying her own painful history with the imp, Halle must journey across six magical kingdoms linked by the ancient Waters Deep River, gathering stories, allies, and courage along the way.
This book is close to my heart. It’s a story about family, friendship, creativity, and the quiet power of believing in yourself when the task feels impossible. I wanted to create a warm, adventurous tale with a young Black girl at the center who uses her hands and her heart to change her fate.
